Oregon Population and Age Distribution. Oregon’s estimated population was 3.9 million. The median age was 38.9 years. 22% of the population was under the age of 18, and 15% was 65 years and over.
Median Household Income. The median income of households was $49,161. The total number of households was 1,516,957 with an average of 2.51 people.
Oregon Employment and Unemployment Rate. 55.4% of the Oregon population over the age of 15 were employed which ranks 39th in the nation. The Oregon unemployment rate is 11.0% which was ranked 8th in the country.
Types of OregonEmployers. The types of employers in Oregon were as follows: 138,131 (7.9%) were self-employed, 239,990 (13.8%) were employed by the federal, state, or local government and 1,357,949 (78.1%) were employed by the private sector.
Top Five Oregon Industries. The top five industries by percent in Oregon were: Educational Services and Health Care (23.3%), Retail (12%), Manufacturing (11.5%), Professional/Administrative/Scientific (10.7%), and Accommodations/Food Service/Entertainment (10%).
Oregon Occupations. Occupations for the population employed (over the age of 15) in Oregon’s private sector were: Business, Science, and Arts (36.1%), Sales and Office (23.9%), Service (19.2%), Production, Transportation, and Material Moving (12.1%), and Natural Resources, Construction, and Maintenance (8.7%).
Oregon Health Insurance Coverage. 85% of the civilian non-institutionalized population had health insurance coverage (15% had no coverage). Of those with coverage, 66% had private coverage and 32% had public coverage.
Disability. 14% of the civilian non-institutionalized population of Oregon reported a disability. The Oregon disability claim rate was ranked 14th in the country.

Total Violent Crimes. Oregon had 9,653 total violent crimes (which ranked 34th in the nation) and with a violent crime rate of 0.25% (which ranked it 41st among all the states including DC & PR). Of the total number of violent crimes, 92 were murders, 1,140 were forcible rapes, 2,413 were robberies, and 6,008 were aggravated assaults.
Property Crime. Oregon had 125,723 total property crimes. Of the total number of property crimes, 21,901 were burglaries, 93,619 were larceny/thefts, and 10,203 were motor vehicle thefts.
Law Enforcement. Oregon had the 44th most law enforcement employees per population. Oregon ranked 50th in the nation for the most police officers per population.
