Median Household Income. The median income of households was $41,724. The total number of households was 1,707,004 with an average of 2.49 people.

Kentucky Employment and Unemployment Rate. 53.8% of the Kentucky population over the age of 15 were employed which ranks 45th in the nation. The Kentucky unemployment rate is 9.3% which was ranked 19th in the country.

Types of Employers. The types of employers in Kentucky were as follows: 103,681 (5.6%) were self-employed, 290,465 (15.5%) were employed by the federal, state, or local government and 1,470,567 (78.7%) were employed by the private sector.

Top Five Industries. The top five industries by percent in Kentucky were: Educational Services and Health Care (24.4%), Manufacturing (13.6%), Retail (11.9%), Accommodations/Food Service/Entertainment (8.8%), and Professional/Administrative/Scientific (7.5%).

Occupations. Occupations for the population employed (over the age of 15) in Kentucky’s private sector were: Business, Science, and Arts (32.3%), Sales and Office (24.5%), Production, Transportation, and Material Moving (16.7%), Service (16.7%), Natural Resources, and Construction, and Maintenance (9.8%).

Kentucky Health Insurance Coverage. 86% of the civilian non-institutionalized population had health insurance coverage (14% had no coverage). Of those with coverage, 65% had private coverage and 33% had public coverage.

Disability. 17% of the civilian non-institutionalized population of Kentucky reported a disability. The Kentucky disability claim rate was ranked 2nd in the country.

Total Violent Crimes. Kentucky had 9,752 total violent crimes (which ranked 33rd in the nation) and with a violent crime rate 0.22% (which ranked it 45th among all the states including DC & PR). Of the total number of violent crimes, 195 were murders, 1,272 were forcible rapes, 3,535 were robberies, and 4,750 were aggravated assaults.

Property Crime. Kentucky had 111,826 total property crimes. Of the total number of property crimes, 29,587 were burglaries, 75,571 were larceny/thefts, and 6,668 were motor vehicle thefts.

Law Enforcement. Kentucky had the 48th most law enforcement employees per population. Kentucky ranked 42nd in the nation for the most police officers per population.

Kansas Employment and Unemployment Rate. 62.2% of the Kansas population over the age of 15 were employed which ranks 14th in the nation. The Kansas unemployment rate is 6.5% which was ranked 43rd in the country.

Types of Employers. The types of employers in Kansas were as follows: 82,773 (5.9%) were self-employed, 237,622 (17%) were employed by the federal, state, or local government and 1,071,524 (76.8%) were employed by the private sector.
